Children's Day
Children's day is celebrated on the second Saturday of January. In Thailand Children are considered as the most valuable resources for the country. The Thai’s have a saying that “Children are the future of the nation and if the children are intelligent, the country will be prosperous."
In promoting their development for a stronger nation, children are encouraged to be industrious in their studies, make use of their time wisely, be disciplined, diligent, helpful to each other, unselfish, aware of right and one’s duty and responsible for society. In addition, they should be encouraged to keep the country clean and conserve the natural environment and public property. If children are aware of their own future and of the nation by behaving in such a way, they will be called "Worthy Children" and the country will be prosperous.
The National Children's Day was held for the first time on the first Monday of October in 1955 and such tradition continued to 1963. It was not until 1964 that the date was changed to the second Saturday of January.
The Buddhapadipa temple sees this to be a significant event and values its importance and will show its support by holding such celebration on Sunday.
