Samanera Day

Every year THE BUDDHAPADIPA TEMPLE holds a Samanera retreat for young boys, lasting 15 days. They are given the opportunity to practice the Buddha’s Dhamma (the Buddha's teachings).

On the ordination-day, parents, relative and guardians, together with anyone who wants to attend can gather at the temple. At around 9.30hrs, the hair shaving-ceremony begins and parents and relatives are firstly invited to clip the ordainee’s hair, after which the monks will then take over and finish off shaving the entire head. Once the heads have been shaved, the monks perform a chanting ceremony for them. This is followed by the offering of lunch for the monks and the newly to be ordainees.

The actual ordination ceremony will be held in the afternoon as detailed in the program below:
