Today, Buddha’s Day arrives again and every year at the Buddhapadipa temple we hold the celebration to commemorate a great teacher who has been known “The Buddha”. The programme of the day is rich in meritorious activities such as chanting, paying respect to triple gem and circumambulating the main temple as commemoration, listening to Dhamma talk, meditation etc.
Buddha’s day or teacher’s day is an important day for people who follow his way of life. Without him, there will be no teaching, Dhamma, for them to learn and practise. The teacher is the most important person in human life as the Buddha spoke about the factors of study, “The teacher is a good friend, he can teach or show the good way of life to students”. We can imagine that without teacher, we might end up in the wrong way. We get help from teacher in many ways such as his way of life, his teaching, his guidance etc.
The Buddha is regarded as a great teacher in the world; he deserves respect and gratitude. Therefore, when the full day of May, his birthday, enlightenment day and passing-away day, comes, people around the world who follow his path show their respect and gratitude to him. May his teachings or Dhamma spread around the world for the peace and harmony of human life.
