King Birthday

Every year on the 5th of December, all Thai people recognize that it is the King Birthday. They join each other and celebrate it. And the Kings Birthday is regarded as the Father’s day and the king of Thailand is regarded as the father of Thai people and the father of the Thai Kingdom. Thai people, who are like his sons and daughters, must be respectful and grateful to him. Therefore, every year on his birthday, Thai people celebrate all over Thailand and around the world.

The King birthday is also recognized as Father's Day which is a great celebration in celebrating fatherhood and parenting, and to honour and commemorate fathers and forefathers. Father's Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving or love-giving to fathers and family-oriented activities.

The king of Thailand is regarded as the father of Thailand and all Thai people. He takes care of them and rules his country with loving-kindness and compassion. We are his sons and daughters, or people so we must show a great respect and gratitude to him. We humbly extend our best wishes to His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s Birthday. Long Live His Majesty the King!

The Buddhapadipa Temple, London, also celebrates this big event and takes opportunity to raise funds to support the King’s projects. A lot of people come to join this big event.

The programme of the day is: In the morning, nine monks perform auspicious chanting and give blessing to His Majesty the King of Thailand. At 11 am people offer lunch for 25 venerable monks, after that they have lunch together. In the afternoon, money tree is offered to the Sangha and will be offered to the king later on. The afternoon session finishes by singing a song for the king. This year, Thai restaurants provide free food for all people who join the celebration. It is joyful and harmonious time, people are happy. This is what the King of Thailand aims to rule his kingdom; he wants his people to live together in peace, happiness and harmony.

Peace, happiness and harmony cannot happen if Thai people themselves don’t make it happen. “We love the king” will be only lip service.
