L.B.A. Dana Day

Dana (share or donation) is the act of sharing or giving as charity, which can be both material and immaterial offering. When a person shares with others (even with animals), and not expect anything in return, his act of generosity is derived from a wholesomeness of mind; what is deemed as the higher level of mind.

One of the many great DANA that we can offer is “Forgiveness”. It is traditionally said that “Those who share with others are loved by others and whenever he is in need, he will not fall short of friends who will come to his aid”. Those who are adorned with DANA are loved by everyone. DANA encourages people who help one another and live with loving kindness and with this at its base; the world will become a better place.

This DANA Day is held annually, this year in particular is extra special because we celebrate it by honouring our most senior founding member of the L.B.A., Mrs Edna Lake.

Mrs. Lake started with a special interest in Asian Art and when she came to the Buddhapadipa temple, she became interested in Buddhism. She studied Buddhism at Buddhapadipa, as well as joined its meditation classes. The L.B.A itself was founded by the very first group of meditators at the temple with Mrs Lake being one of them. She later took on more responsibility in helping the temple by teaching Meditation, Dhamma and also Abhidhamma classes.

She has made an outstanding contribution and has helped many people to develop an understanding in the Buddhist way of life. It is with greatest pleasure to express our thanks and sincerest gratitude for the gift that she has given to so many people for many years.

She is both a great teacher and kalyanamitta to many. This day is held to celebrate her dedication and success in helping many to walk the Buddhist Path. May she be happy and healthy.
