:: Buddhapadipa Thai Temple
Meeting of the Lay Buddhist Association Committee 28 October 2007
Members present:- Trevor Flaxman, Colin Brown, Mike Carveth, Andy Brown and Lynne Parry
Apologies for Absence: Nathalie Deacon, Sue Hoxley and Alan Townsend
1) Matters arising from the Minutes; Colin has bought and generously donated a Post Box for LBA mail and Alan kindly fitted it to the wall next to the LBA Book Stall. We need to label it “LBA Mail” or similar. There are currently two keys (Andy and Sue have them) Andy will have some more cut for both this and the LBA cupboard in the Telephone room.
2) Study Day: Went well and was enjoyed by those who attended. Thanks were expressed to Phrakru Lom for his talk. The LBA offered lunch to the Venerable Monks, made a donation of one thousand pounds towards Temple expenses and copies of the Majjhima, Digha and Samyutta Nikayas plus a large Pali Dictionary to the reference section of the Temple Library.
Attendance was however quite low and attention should be paid to this for next year.
3) Residential Retreats
a) Retreat Organiser: there were no volunteers to fill the vacant post of Retreat Organiser
b) Winter Retreat: It was agreed that by sharing duties members would ensure the Winter Retreat takes place. Final allocation of these duties to individuals will take place at the next meeting.
3) Meditation Teachers: There where no volunteers for the vacant post of Saturday Lay Meditation Teacher
4) Kathina / Loy Kratong : LBA volunteers will be available to run an information desk and offer free distribution books should space and books be available.
5) Mediation cushions: The new Meditation cushions have arrived and cost £458.96
(10 Zafu cushions, 6 mats & 6 wedges).
Some of the previous purchased good quality cushions have gone missing.
6) Vesantara Day: Mike, Colin and Trevor ran the Information/ Bookstall and raised approx £300 for the Temple fund. Trevor donated some children’s books. We are still without children’s books to offer on these occasions.
7) Any Other Business: We received a kind donation of £25 from Modern Buddha Way.
8) Date of the next meeting: Sunday 09 December at 14:00 hrs
