The Temple was represented by: Phramaha Sangthong
Members present:-Andy Brown, Colin Brown, Mike Carveth, Nathalie Deacon, Alan Townsend, Lynn Parry, Geoffrey Hunt & Peter Edwards
Apologies for Absence: Sue Hoxley & Trevor Flaxman
1) Matters arising from the Minutes: There were no matters arising from the minutes
2) Spring Retreat: Andy is taking the bookings but still looking for someone to take over this duty, Lynne will do the shopping and clean the fridge, Nathalie will do Keys and deposits on the start day and Jacek will help with bringing the spare sleeping bags & pillows downstairs. Andy will buy a supply of Ear plugs (after complaints about snorers on the previous retreat) and Peter suggested we add Earplugs to the list of requisites on the application form.
3) Visakhapuja Day 18 May 08: We are still without a speaker; Phramaha Sangthong will ask Ven. Khemadhammo from Angulimala if he will be able to speak. Colin will do the reading. Andy will prepare notices and e-mail the membership.
4) Asalhapuja Day 13 July 08: Andy has invited Ajahn Sundara from the Amaravati Nun’s community but had no reply (She has subsequently accepted).
5) Electing a Chairman: Andy is Acting Chairman by default but has never sort or desired this position. When we reformed the Committee just over a year ago we did say that once we got to know each other better we would try to elect a Chairman from the Committee members. It was then asked if anyone would consider having their name put forward for this position; Lynn, Geoffrey and Colin said they may be interested. It was proposed that we should also invite comment from the wider membership and the Temple on this matter.
6) Bookstall:
The bookstall has been low on stock recently and also needs some children’s books.
There was discussion about having a basic meditation book published for free distribution, Colin will look into the cost of this.
Mr Sermsak has produced two books on different aspects of Buddhism. The LBA will purchase two copies of each to see if they are popular on the bookstall
7) Any Other Business:
a) No progress on the Pond but Mr Wanchai may be planning some action
b) The LBA donated £250 towards the cost of producing ‘The Friendly Way’.
c) Phramaha Sangthon has been unable to update the Temple website recently we need to contact Mark to re-set his password.
d) Geoffrey reported that Guildford University has been active in Interfaith circles hosting a meeting of 23 Faith leaders and launching an Interfaith Centre project with a budget of six million pounds
8) Date of the next Meeting: Sunday 29th June at 2 pm
