Minutes of the Meeting of the Lay Buddhist Association Committee 29 June 2008
The Temple was not represented at the meeting.
Members present:- Andy Brown, Colin Brown, Nathalie Deacon, Lynn Parry, Sue Hoxley & Trevor Flaxman & Peter Edwards.
Apologies for Absence: Alan Townsend and Geoffrey Hunt,
1) Matters arising from the Minutes:
c) Phramaha Sangthong is now able to update the Temple website
2) Spring Retreat: Nine people attended, they were a very pleasant group and appear to have enjoyed their stay. Thanks to all who helped
3) Visakhapuja Day 18 May 08: Thanks to Phramaha Sangthong for his talk and Colin for doing the reading
4) Asalhapuja Day 13 July 08: Ajahn Sundara a senior member of Amaravati Monastery Nuns’ Community has accepted to give the talk during the afternoon session.
She will arrive after lunch. Andy will e-mail members, Colin will do posters. Nathalie will arrange to meet her.
5) Summer Retreat: Andy will prepare application forms, Lynne will do the shopping, Nathalie will do the Keys and Peter will help
6) Membership: Sue has sent out renewal notices and they have started to come back in.
7) Electing a Chairman: Lynn proposed the Peter Edwards joined the Committee this was seconded by Sue and five members voted in favor with one abstention. Peter was asked if he would take on the position of Chairman for a period of six months. He accepted and five members voted in favor with one abstention.
8) Bookstall: Trevor will try to source more children’s books
9) Any Other Business:
a) Phrakru Lom’s birthday will be celebrated in conjunction with his promotion to the highest rank of Phrakru on Sunday 6th July. Andy will advise the membership of the programme by e-mail
b) Letter from Chulan: A letter addressed to the Committee Members has been received from Chulan Sampathge the contents of which were discussed. In view of allegations made in this letter it was agreed to send copies to the Committee Members not present at the meeting as well as to Mrs Edna Lake and Mrs Pat Alderman. Responses will then be collated and a reply drafted for approval by those concerned.
