All Right
By Dhammacaro
“Everything is all right”, are good words for us to say to comfort one another when we have worries or concerns. In this way we can relieve others from worry or concern. The thing is, however, we should not just say this but should find a way to help ourselves as well. To say this can be a good starting point in helping ourselves but then we must do as we say so that it will be all right. There is a Chinese story, which provides a good example of this. Here is the story:
There once was an old man who was respected by all in a certain village. He liked to say to people that, “Everything is all right.” When people had disagreements or disputes with one another, the old man could sort it out just by saying, “Everything is all right.” When people thought over what he had said, they understood: everything is going to be all right.
One day there were two men who had an argument with one another. They could not agree with one another, so they were advised to go to see the old man to decide. The old man said to them, “You are right and you, too, are also right. Everything is all right. Why do you both want to have problem.” When the two heard this they realised that in life there are always choices; to be all right or not to be all right. They said to each other, “Why don’t we choose to be all right?” Immediately after this, they agreed with each other and thanked the old man who had reminded them of the right choice.
It is true that in life we have choices; to be all right or not to be all right. We human beings are choice-makers, so we must learn to make the right choice. Otherwise, we will always face problems, or conflicts in life. “Everything is all right” is a good sentence to remind ourselves of this, or to start doing something about it.
Be positive, everything is going to be all right!
