Living Philosophy
“Life is in your hand” is always expressed in Buddhism. With this expression, Buddhist people have no other Savior than a teacher, the Buddha, or the Dhamma discoverer who taught the way of life called Buddhism. This way of life emphasizes on learning Dhamma and practising it. And real experience is the aim, which can be used in daily life. The Buddha is not a savior; he can help no body. What he could do is to teach or show them the path and they must themselves walk the path.
It is true that no one can help us all the time. We have to help ourselves with every thing we want in life. There is a story which can illustrate a good thing about teaching. Here is the detail;
A fisherman, who was asked for fish by a boy, said, “Boy, I will teach you how to fish” and added, “Boy, you know! If I give you fish, you can eat it for only one meal. But if you can fish yourself, you can eat fish all the rest of your life”. The boy looked at him and made a nod as a gesture of understanding. This is a good philosophy of a living.
This story can teach us that what we want, we must learn to gain it. It is the same with Dhamma, if we want to understand Dhamma and make use of it in our life, we have to learn it. In reality, to pray or beseech for help does not work as we can see in our daily life. Everything such as big house, good car, etc. we want, we have to work hard for that. We cannot pray for getting what we want. Only one way is to learn and work for that. It is like a moral story of the story “Fish given lasts one meal, fishing lasts for the rest of life”. Believe it or not, I just leave it to you; think about it.
