Quality
What is the highest quality of human life? There are many answers to this question. It depends on who gives the answer. If I give an answer to this question, I will quote the advice of the Buddha: The best qualities of human life are loving-kindness, generosity, responsibility, truthfulness and mindfulness. These are qualities which lie within human beings; no matter who they are, they have them.
These qualities support all life to live together in peace and harmony. They do not just support life at a basic living level; they also liberate life from desire, if they are highly developed. So we should not look down on them. They are a good start to develop our quality of life.
A lot of people have negative thoughts: "I’m not as beautiful as others, I’m not as talented as my friends and I’m not brilliant at anything! And I feel bad about me". They never think that they have plenty of qualities such as loving kindness, generosity, responsibility, truthfulness and mindfulness. They forget that they were born with those qualities; they need to just develop them and make use of them.
It is true that if we want others to love us, we must love them first. If we want others to be generous towards us, we must be generous towards others. We must take responsibility for our own duty and then we will be successful in life. If we want to be trusted, we must be truthful, or give right information to others. If we want to be happy and peaceful, we must be mindful of our own actions. This is a simple thing; we don’t have to be a genius to do this. We simply work at developing our five qualities with which were born. Learn them and apply them in daily life.
