The Consequence
It is said in Buddhism that “what we have and who we are, are the consequences of our own actions. Therefore, we must take a good care of our own actions here and now because our present actions will determine our future”. Is it true though, can that really be the case? I will not answer this question I will leave you to find out by yourself. What I will say, however, is simply that when two hands come together is there not a clap?
It is true, the same as actions there are subjects and objects which make contacts and then the contact or action produces the consequences, both good and bad, according to the actions. If good actions are performed, then good consequences are produced and if bad actions are done, then bad consequences are produced.
I can say that yes, we are the consequences of our own actions; let’s see how this applies to our daily life – if we work hard and properly, we will get good pay. If we are lazy, we will be fired. There may be some questions, “Through my life, I have done much good, so why don’t I achieve good results”. I will answer this question, “Actions will exactly produce the results according to the causes, but they must be right according to both time and place. If you always expect things before your actions, then they are not pure actions, you see the simile, the handclapping; if it is strong, it will produce a loud noise, but if it is soft, it will produce a light sound”.
So when we say ‘actions’, there are many factors involved – such as time, intention, place etc. therefore, it is not a sure thing when and in which manner they will produce the eventual result. But one thing surely happens, there is always some kind of consequence.
