What Is True Love?

Written by PK Lom

‘True love’ is opposite of self-centredness and is non-sectarian; it is usually connected with compassion and has the feeling and intention to sympathize with all people who are in trouble, let’s say at war, at earthquake, etc. And if possible we are willing to help them or to lift them out of danger and suffering. Therefore the true aim and capacity of true love is universal and pure love. We all have this true love; we should not only to talk about true love but we also do really need to spread it into the human world, so that happiness and peace will occur in the world. Surely whenever true love is developed, whether a little or more and fully, it embraces all human beings and even animals and consequently the human minds dwell in peace. Hence when the human society or the world or whatever you call it is seen and embraced with true love peace occurs. “Loko patthaampika metta – true love supports the world”, said the Buddha.
