Kathina And Loy Krathong Festival Day At The Buddhapadipa Temple, 2010

Kathina is a festival, in which the Buddha allowed his disciples to receive extra robes after the Rains Retreat. It was wonderful day; a lot of people came to join the ceremony, as it is special. It is held once a year.
The ceremony started from 10 am – 11 am; all the monks, who do the retreat for three months in the temple, attended the ceremony led by the head monk. The Thai ambassador arrived at the main temple and offered the robes to the order of monks. And the robes were offered to the head monk, then two monks performed chanting and all the monks congratulated the head monk on having the new robes. Finally, the order of monks gave blessing to all people who attended the ceremony.
Loy Kratong Festival
In the afternoon session, people enjoyed the entertainment and Loy Krathong festival. They bought Krathongs made of the colourful materials, which contained a pair of candles, three incense sticks, and fresh flowers, and floated them in the pond. They were joyous and happy as they showed respect and gratitude dedicated to appeasing the Goddess of the water and it is believed that the Krathongs would carry away their bad luck, and bring forth their wishes.
