Lba Review Meeting Of 7Th January 2007
An informal meeting was held by the LBA at the temple on Sunday 7 January 2007 in order to invite discussion as to the way forward for the Lay Buddhist Association, to enlist new support and include members in the running of its affairs. All current and prospective members were cordially invited to attend.
As well as the presence of the Venerable Phrakru Samulom and Phramaha Sangthong the meeting was well attended by many existing and new members. The chairman, Andy Brown led us through the agenda.
It was noted that many of the long standing and original committee members have had to cease their voluntary assistance for the LBA, due to various circumstances.
The agenda included explaining the many duties attached to running the LBA and how members could aid the association and help the temple in the process. The response from the members was a very positive one with many showing interest. At present many assist the temple on a regular but informal basis. But much help is needed in running the LBA and so it was to much delight that so many were willing to show help. Mainly the LBA are looking for committed members who could fully take ownership to a role with assistance from members who are willing to help on an ad-hoc basis. It was suggested that possibly a rotation system of duties could be put in place. Many hands make light work!
Phrakru Samulom spoke of the temple finances and the general running of the establishment.
It was suggested that the membership and retreat fees could be raised. After much discussion it was agreed that monies raised by the LBA was sufficient to its running costs while also being able to donate regularly to the temple.
It was also noted that membership subscriptions have fallen from approximately 90 to now approximately 40. How could we maintain existing members and attract new members?
Forms were handed out for members to fill in indicating how and if they would like to help.
The outcome of the meeting was that the LBA Committee should be reformed and then duties relating to the LBA would be dispersed amongst our members. Therefore a further meeting has been scheduled for Sunday 14 January 2007 at 2pm (meeting at the library in the main house). If you can do so please attend as your input is invaluable to us.
