Minutes Of Meeting Of Lay Buddhist Association 15 July 2007
The Temple was represented by Phramaha Sangthong.
Members present: Colin Brown (Chair), Andy Brown (Secretary), Alan Townsend (Committee Member), & Sue Hoxley (Membership Secretary)
Apologies for absence: Trevor Flaxman,
1) Matters arising from the Minutes:
a) A message of thanks has been received from Mr Nick Carroll from ALBA Amaravati Lay Buddhist regarding his visit on Visakhapuja Day 03 June.
b) The Venerable Dhammasami has accepted our invitation to speak on Asalahapuja Day.
c) Nothing further has been heard from the persons whom expressed interest dealing with the Pond.
2).Commercial Notices: There have been incidences of people putting private commercial notices/advertisements on the Temple notice boards and on the LBA bookstall. The LBA reaffirmed its position that it does not permit this in its areas and Phramaha Sangthon said that the Monk responsible for Temple notice boards would monitor Thai language notices. It was suggested that notices should be dated and signed when they are displayed.
3) Retreats: Andy mentioned that we need volunteers to share the responsibilities and duties involved in running the residential retreats. A notice will be put up asking for volunteers. There was a question as to whether Ananda would be back from Thailand in time to cook for the forthcoming Summer Retreat commencing 16 September.
4) Bristol Lay Buddhist Group: One of our long standing members (David Ralston) who moved to Bristol some years ago has started a local Theravada Group and asked if we could provide a link to his website www.theravadabuddhismbristol.org/ from the Temple website. Phramaha Sangthon said he would ask Mark to add the link.
5) LBA Study Day / Dana – 29 September: Andy will ask Phrakru Lom if he would be available to give a talk in the afternoon.
6) Membership renewals: Sue reported that to date approximately half of our members had renewed their membership, 22 from our current 50 paying members
Any Other Business: Andy mentioned that there was currently some money in the Retreat account should we need to replace or replenish or Cushions or other meditation equipment.
.
9) Date of the next Meeting: Sunday 02 September in the Library. Alan’s turn to Chair.
