Reflection Of Death
Death is not something new to hear. It has existed in this very world. I can say that it is within everything, as the Buddha said, “Everything is born and must die.” This is the truth of existence; no one can escape or avoid this. It will happen to everyone, and there is no exception whether you are rich or you are poor, or you are man or woman etc. The question is why? The same answer may be repeated again and again, “It is because of birth. If there is no birth, there is on death.” That’s it really. No rebirth is the ultimate goal of the Buddhist practice, but it is not easy as we have craving, clinging or attachment to things. It is very hard to get rid of craving, desire, clinging, attachment, but it is not beyond human ability. It is said that if mankind pays close attention to life, it will give rise to seeing the truth of life. When the truth is realised, birth and death don’t matter; it is just nature of things. If we realize this we can then detach ourselves from anything material or immaterial.
A sage once said that if we thought birth and death did matter, we got into trouble. Why is that, it is because when we cling to impermanent things as permanent, we will suffer again and again because of that clinging. Things keep changing; they are not under anyone’s control as we see things changing in this very world. Babies are born everyday and young and old men die everyday which we are witness to continually throughout our lives. This is the truth of existence as” today we are gathering here for the funeral service of Mr. Frank even though he has died but his friendliness and loving kindness to all never die with him, they are in our heart."
