Samanera Day 26-7-09
In Summer every year, the Buddhapadipa Temple holds Samanera retreat for young boys who wish to learn Buddhism and practise meditation. For 15 days, they will be given the opportunity to learn the theory of Buddhism and practise meditation.
Education is the first stage of life and the Buddha always encouraged people to learn and, secondly, encouraged them to put what they have learned into practice. And they will experience the fruits of their learning and practising.
This year there are seven novices altogether which is a good number. It is not crowded and what the young novices will do during their stay in the temple is that they have to observe 10 precepts/discipline, learn and practise meditation and learn to have knowledge to guide their life and live together in peace and harmony.
The monks will take care of them, train them and guide them good way of life. The study and practice set for them are not tough; they are just suitable to them as they are young. The Samanera Project is a good start for them to learn how to live a good life.
Education is always good at the beginning, practice is always good at the middle and finally the fruit of education and practice is always seen according to their own effort.
Good luck
