Silajarini

In July every year, the Buddhapadipa Temple holds Silajarini (Buddhist nun retreat). The popularity has increased more and more as a number of practitioners increases each year. This year, the number of registrations was 96. It seems crowded, but it is not at all. It is OK because they have the same intention, to learn Buddhist teaching and to practise meditation, the same rules, and 8 precepts. Even it is more than a hundred, it can still easily organized because they obey the rules, take responsibility for themselves, be patient and kind to each other.

The programme set up for them is not very tough; they start the day from 5 am and finish at 10 pm. Here is the detail; getting up at 5 am, doing morning chanting at 5.30 am, eating breakfast at 7.15 am and lunch at 11 am, doing evening chanting and following by Dhamma talk by the head monk at 6 pm. The time between, they practise standing meditation together with walking meditation, and sitting meditation.

One thing they are encouraged to practise in their life is to respect each other as if they are in the same boat. They have to row the boat to the destination together. They do not obstruct each other in terms of living in harmony. Finally, they can reach their destination safely and happily as the project comes to an end, all practitioners are joyful, happy and successful according to their own practice.

See you all next year in July.
