Vesak Day
The Vesak Day is one of the most important days in Buddhism as three important occurrences in the life of the Buddha, i.e. the Birth, the Enlightenment and the Passing away, all took place on the full moon day of May. Therefore when the Vesak comes each year, Buddhists throughout the world get together to celebrate the Vesak Day, and commemorate the important occurrences in the life of the Buddha.
The Buddhapadipa temple every year celebrates the Vesak Day, and a lot of people join the celebration. The activities were full of meritorious deeds and started in the morning and ended in the evening. It is great to express gratitude for the great teacher, the Buddha, particularly for his loving kindness, compassion, purity and wisdom.
As the Vesak Day is the most important day, is on the 23rd – 25th of May 2010, Thailand and Inner Trip Reiyukai International (ITRI) co-hosted the 7th International Buddhist Conference on the United Nations Day of Vesak. It was a great celebration as 84 countries joined the Day. They shared each other with wisdom and exchanged their ideas to help recover the world. It is great to share and help each other as the Buddha encouraged the world to share each other with what they had and help each other as they could.
Last weekend on 13th June, PK Lom with 2 monks went to Dublin, Ireland, to hold the Vesak Day. It was late celebration, but it does not matter to celebrate before or after as Buddhists have the same idea; they have the same teacher, the Buddha, they learn and practise the same teaching, the Dhamma and they try to live together in peace and harmony. So that is a great idea that once a year they gather and celebrate the Vesak Day to express their gratitude for the great teacher who dedicated his life to search for the noble truths of life and spent the rest of his life to teach the world the noble truths.
The celebration day brought peace, harmony, great learning and joy to the world. It is great, isn’t it?
