Visiting Modern Buddha Way
It was, once again, nice to visit the Modern Buddha Way, the meditators’s group. It is like visiting friends; although some people I know, some I do not. The session began with lighting the incense. When the gong was hit, it meant the time for meditation had started.
At the beginning was sitting meditation for about 30 minutes, and then the session continued with walking meditation. The instruction given to the group was, “It is not walking, but it is walking meditation”. It is true as all meditators walked mindfully, it is not just only walking. After walking meditation, there was chanting, ‘Let go, letting go, letting, letting, letting go!’ It is a nice reminder as attachment is the biggest problem for human beings. Then there was a short period of sitting meditation and a short break for a cup of tea and lunch for me and Colin.
After break, we went back to the room again for a talk and discussion. Dr. Geoffrey introduced me to the group and asked me to give a talk on the five hindrances (sensual desire, ill-will, sloth and torpor, restlessness and remorse and sceptical doubt) and Buddhism in Thailand. I did that by explaining the meaning the five hindrances and told them a simile of five men who got caught by the five hindrances. They suffered, but when they could abandon them, they were happy. Then I gave the group of meditators time to ask questions. Some asked questions about the five hindrances, some asked about monastic life and some just expressed their ideas. It is always nice to share thoughts with others.
Finally, time to come to an end and Dr. Geoffrey closed the session. Everyone said good bye to each other and left the centre happily. It is always nice for me to visit Modern Buddha Way and meditate with them. I hope that I can visit again soon. See you shortly!
