Maghapuja Day

Written by Dhammacaro on 02/09/2009

Maghapuja is the day that the Buddha presented to his followers, the core teaching of his and the methods of the propagation of his teachings.

His core teachings are:

Never do evil,
Always do good,
Always purify or train the mind.

The methods of the propagation are;

Never insult others.
Never harm anybody or anything.
Always teach people sincerely, respectively and correctly.
Always be a good example in learning and practising Buddhism.

There were two sessions;

The morning session started with the circumambulation, chanting, Dhamma talk and lunch for monks and people.

The afternoon session started with chanting, sutta-reading, Dhamma talk and meditation.

The day was full of religious and meritorious activities from morning to evening. People were fulfilled with knowledge and merit as the theme of the day is to commemorate the teacher, his teachings and his disciples who worked very hard in study and practice, and passed on their knowledge to the next generation.

Buddhism spans over 2500 years, all teachings are still available here and now, because of the hard-working teacher and his disciples who helped one another share the teachings to the world. It is such a great sharing, isn’t? I would like to remind those who could not attend the day with these teachings;

Never do evil mentally, verbally and physically,
Always do good mentally, verbally and physically,
Always purify or train the mind.

See you again on the Thai New Year, 12th of April
