Minutes of Meeting of the Lay Buddhist Association Committee 09 December 2007

The Temple was represented by: Phramaha Sangthong

Members present:- Andy Brown, Colin Brown, Mike Carveth, Trevor Flaxman, Nathalie Deacon, Alan Townsend and Lynn Parry

Apologies for Absence: Sue Hoxley

1) Matters arising from the Minutes: There were no matters arising from the minutes

2) Winter Retreat 27 – 31 December: The Retreat is over subscribed; Andy will contact everybody on the list to see if they are still definitely attending before telling people on the waiting list that there is no place available on this occasion.

Allocation of duties: Lynn – breakfast shopping, clean the fridge / kettle and toaster & check the Ladies shower. Paul - Room Keys and deposits. Alan – check boiler & male shower. Colin – Sleeping bags, pillows, bowls & trays. Sau Ling – at the school rooms, tell people where is the hoover and cushions etc. Pom – collect fees / pay the cook. Sort out telephone room – tea towels. Andy – bookings, programmes, precepts, rooming list. Arrange for Kuhn Ananda to Cook. (I will put everything in the book cupboard; key holders will be Lynn and Paul).

3) Meditation Teachers: Phramaha Sangthong reported that in the New Year the Monks will teach beginners classes on the Weekend days and Lay persons will cover weekdays.

4) Kathina / Loy Kratong; Sadly after months of preparation it rained heavily and was cold on the day. Colin and Trevor ran the LBA book and Information table by the House.

5) 2008 Program / Maghapuja Day: Colin will invite a speaker from Amaravati.

Members mentioned that they would also like to invite Mrs Edna Lake and the Nuns from Citaviveka to give talks later in 2008.

6) Any other Business:-

a) Not for the first time this year full day meditation was disturbed by putting out chairs on Saturday morning for a Sunday function. Could this not be done at least in the afternoon?

b) Phrakru Lom has received a promotion to the highest Rank of Phrakru. We express our heartfelt and warm congratulations to him.

c) An additional Post box key has been cut for Trevor
