What we all should do is first of all we must cultivate our true love. How can we do to cultivate true love? As Buddhists we must take the Buddha’s advice because he kindly and clearly stated on the subject of the ‘friendliness or true love’ known in Pali as ‘metta sutta’, which I believe you Buddhists know very well.
Here is what the Buddha stated, “He who is skilled to have potential benefit and, of course, seeks to attain the peace, and even Nibbana, should be strongly-minded, upright, truthful, heedful, gently obedient and free from defilements such as aggression and arrogance. He must be contented, easily supportable with correct duties, lives a moral life, he controls sense-pleasures, is not impudent and neither self-centred.”
“He should not commit any slightly wrong things such that the wise may criticize him. He should contend his friendly terms to all living beings both man and animals, thinking of them all; ‘may all living beings always be blessed with good health, may all living beings be happy and far away from unpleasant things and have tranquil minds.’”
“Whatever living beings there may be feeble or strong, long, stout or medium, short or large. Visible or invisible, may those who live here and far away already be born as well as seeking birth be well happily minded.”
“Let no one deceive another and neither despises beings anywhere in the world. In any circumstances, let he not wish others to get ill treated in any way. Even as a mother protects her only child with all of her risky life, even thus let he really cultivate a boundless love towards all living beings.”
“Let he do cultivate unlimited love towards all beings in the world, above, below and around without any repugnance, anger and enmity. Whether sitting or standing, walking or reclining as long as he is awake, let he mindfully cultivate and develop ‘the boundless love’ or true love or ‘sublime abode’. Not falling into the wrong view, endowed with ‘ethical conduct’ and ‘insight’ he gives up such attachment to sense-desires, and never again verily shall he enter any womb to get a rebirth.”
