“Treasure” is thing which all people are looking for. In Buddhism, there are two kinds of treasure; firstly material and secondly immaterial. The Buddha encouraged the world to seek for the immaterial treasure. He said, “The immaterial treasure is within, find it, realise it and make use of it”. He not only pointed it out where the treasure was, but also taught how to achieve it which is meditation. Meditation is the method to learn and understand the immaterial treasure; it is mainly allowing medititors to learn their physical and mental functions. Through meditation, they can know what type of people they are, what treasure they have and they can make use of it or they can change their attitude of living; change for the better.
There is a question “Do we know that we have treasure within?” Or a particular question is “Do you know that you have treasure within?” Some may know but some may not. For those, who know, have no problem, but for those, who don’t know, must seek for it. There is the Zen story about this. Here is the story:
There was once a Japanese Zen teacher, named Daistu, who visited his friend, Chinese Zen teacher, named Baso. When they met, they had a conversation. Master Baso asked Master Daistu, “What are you seeking for?” Master Daistu answered, “Well! I am seeking for treasure”. Master Baso asked him again, “You have already had it. Why do you still seek for it?” Master Daistu looked stunned and asked Master Baso, “Where is my treasure?” Master Baso answered, “Your treasure is within you, don’t you know? Open it up, and make use of it”. Then Master Daistu understood that his treasure was within himself and learned how to realise it and make use of it. When he went back to Japan, he advised his fellow friend and taught his students, “Don’t seek for the treasure outside, it is within you”.
Do we know that our treasure is within ourselves? If we do, learn to realise it and make use of it. If we don’t, we must look within through meditation until we can realise it and make use of it. It is not late for us to learn to realise our treasure if we start now.
Are you ready to start? I have already been ready and started it.
